Scientist, Protein Engineering
We are seeking driven, self-motivated, and passionate Scientists to join our team. Candidates will be involved in developing assays and engineering enzymes for our novel DNA sequencing technology, Sequencing by Expansion. The position primarily involves hands-on laboratory work as individual contributors, being part of a technology development team, and taking the lead on high priority projects. Applicants should have experience and be comfortable leading independent projects and coming up with novel approaches to solving problems. The scientist will work directly with founding technical and scientific officers, scientists, and research associates in a dynamic start-up biotech environment. The position is salaried with hours dependent on lab needs and project deadlines.
Plan and manage complex projects, communicating schedule, implementation steps, and progress.
Design and execute well-controlled experiments.
Perform data analysis and protocol development.
Identify problems and propose solutions.
Maintain detailed and reliable laboratory records.
Maintain the lab’s cleanliness and organization.
Other duties as assigned.
Adhere to Stratos Genomics’ policies and support management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Solid computer skills. Experience with Excel preferred.
Very good organization skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical ability.
A keen ability to listen to directions and execute them accurately.
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all organization levels.
Ability to work safely and professionally with or on Stratos' property.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
PhD, MS, or BS/BA in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field.
Minimum of 5 years laboratory experience demonstrating ability to independently plan and execute complex research designs.
Experience with manipulation of nucleic acids, protein engineering, assay development, and process development/management.
Preference given to candidates with additional technical background in next-generation DNA sequencing platforms, biomolecule conjugation chemistries, molecular engineering and laboratory automation.
