Stratos Genomics Receives Grant from the National Human Genome Research Institute for Further Development of Sequencing by Expansion Technology
Seattle, Wash. – August 23, 2011 – Stratos Genomics Inc. today announced receipt of grant funds from the National Human Genome Research Institute in the amount of $829,000 over two years. The NHGRI, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), awarded $14 million to nine qualifying research organizations on Monday, August 22, 2011, to support the development of revolutionary DNA sequencing technologies.
Stratos Genomics will utilize the grant funds to further development of its ultra-low-cost nucleic acid sequencing method for whole genome analysis and molecular diagnostics. “We are excited to receive this award and grateful to have the support of NHGRI,” said Mark Kokoris, Chief Science Officer and principal investigator for the grant. “The additional funding will allow us to expand our development efforts and bring us one step closer to realizing the enormous potential of our Sequencing by Expansion™ technology.”
“We are confident that NHGRI grantees will continue to make major breakthroughs in the development of technologies that will sequence a human genome for $1,000 or less,” NHGRI Director Eric D. Green, M.D, Ph.D., said in a press release dated April 22, 2011. “As genome sequencing costs continue to decline, researchers and clinicians can increase the scale and scope of their studies. We will continue to fund innovations to accelerate what is known about human health and disease.”

About Stratos Genomics Inc
Stratos Genomics’ goal is to establish the next gold standard of DNA sequencing with its “Sequencing by Expansion™” (SBX™) method. SBX is a simple, elegant, single-molecule detection process that circumvents the limitations of competing technologies, allowing accurate, ultra-low-cost whole genome sequencing. Established in 2007, Stratos Genomics Inc. is a spin-off of Seattle-based Stratos Group LLC.
